INTERNAL MEDICINE | Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital is proud to say that we are the only private hospital in the Bryan/College Station that has among it's full-time staff a board certified Internist. Dr. Neil Van Stavern is board certified in internal medicine; this certification requires additional training and testing beyond the education required for a doctor of veterinary medicine. Dr. Van Stavern is the senior veterinarian on staff and always welcomes new cases. |
LABORATORY SERVICES We offer a full range of laboratory services. Not only can we perform tests for heartworms and intestinal parasites, we can also run the range of necessary blood work to diagnose problems with various organ systems, especially the liver and kidneys. |
DENTAL SERVICES | Regular professional cleaning of the teeth is important to maintaining your pet's health. It is estimated that a pet's life can be extended by 15% if a regular dental hygiene program is followed. We use modern and safe ultrasonic scalers to clean each tooth thoroughly. The teeth are then polished to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface that is more resistant to plaque buildup. Oravet is an optional product that can be applied to further reduce the build up of plaque and tartar. Annual dental cleanings are highly recommended to keep your pet happy and healthy. Dr. Laura Bay- Williams is an active member of the American Veterinary Dental Society and is our resident veterinary dentist. |
FULLY STOCKED PHARMACY | We stock a wide range of the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field. Routine preventative medications that keep your cats and dogs safe from harmful parasites are available at all times. We maintain a regular stock of Sentinel, Interceptor, Advantage, and Revolution. Please let us help keep your pets immune to infectious disease and free from intestinal parasites, heartworms, fleas and ticks. |
SURGERY | Our hospital is able to offer a wide-range of surgical services for your pet. . All patients are thoroughly examined prior to anesthesia, and anesthetic drugs are specifically selected for your pet. We use the safest anesthetics, along with using highly technical instruments to monitor your pet during all procedures. This allows us to perform all surgical services in the safest environment possible. In order to ensure the safest procedure for your pet we utilize state of the art technology such as: a radiowave surgical unit, heated surgery tables, advanced sterilization techniques, and constant blood pressure and oxygen saturation monitoring. After surgery is complete, we carefully monitor our patients until they are fully recovered, and we make sure to provide medication to control post-operative pain. In most cases, our surgical patients are discharged the same day as surgery. |
RADIOLOGY | Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular(cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. We offer our clients access to x-ray services during all regular office hours. |
ULTRASOUND | This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available during regular office hours. |
ENDOSCOPY Endoscopy is a method of visualizing the internal organs of an animal while being minimally invasive to the patient. The endoscope can be used in the diagnosis of problems associated with major airways, stomach, gastrointestinal tract, bladder, and nasal passages. This innovative new technology is an outstanding way for our doctors to get more detailed information in order to diagnose the cause of a patient’s problem. |
BATHING | Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Bathing removes dirt, debris and that stinky pet odor – your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that can help relieve the itch. We can also perform a nail trim or ear cleaning if requested. |
BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE | Illness does not always have a physical cause. Allow us to help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen to improve the quality of life for your pet. |
BOARDING | Please allow us to care for your animals when you are not able to. When you are away, we are able to provide care for your pet. All animals that are boarded with us are provided supervised outdoor exercise at least three times a day to keep them happy and active. We provide high quality Science Diet food for boarded animals, but feel free to bring your pet's usual diet if you choose. Every pet that spends more than one night with us is sent home freshly bathed. |

MICROCHIPPING | Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip to increase the chances of a safe recovery. Microchips provide pets with a method of permanent identification, as well as providing owners the piece of mind knowing that their pets have the best chance of being returned to them should they be separated. |
